Creative Every Day
I’ve signed up for Leah’s Creative Every Day 2008 challenge.
This challenge is about getting more creativity into your everyday life. It’s about creativity in its broadest sense and while with me that’s probably going to translate into drawing of some description it can mean all sorts of little acts of creativity.
I don’t imagine I’ll be posting every day. I want this to be fun and not to start to feel like a chore. I have plenty of other sources of stress in my life and this particular challenge is, for me anyway, about allowing myself an escape avenue from the day to day grind of workaday life.
My creativity for New Year’s was specially fun:)
I spent the evening at my sister’s and has lots of fun with my nieces and nephews drawing monsters on an Etch-A-Sketch with them!

I also watched Suzie Templeton’s beautiful stop motion animation of Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf on New Year’s Day and I’ve been doodling some quick little sketches of wolves:

Back to work tomorrow :(
Sigh. Why do the holidays always seem far too brief?

A. Because they are! Christmas Holidays need to last until after 12th night at least. We could all stock pile food and books and be content as can be :-)

P.S. Great drawings!
I was thinking about joining in but am worried about adding more stress and pressure to my life… still considering....

I would imagine that as an artist your life is already full of daily creativity?
I’ve been eating fruit all day which I think is my body’s way of telling me that yes it is time for the holidays to end and to aim to get more food groups in my diet than just chocolate and mince pies. But still...oh for another couple of days!

I too signed up for the creative everyday 08. figure it would keep me thinking creative anyway. I probably wont get something DONE everyday but I will be trying to be creative.
Your wolves look very very menacing.. like wolves do. ;)

Oh skinny hungry wolves and big red mean tongues...they are threatening to me.
I hope to be creative in some way every day. have not officially “signed up to commit” just hope I am. That has to include the “thinking” about what I am going to do, how I am going to do it, reading about how to do it, etc...as my “next project(s) are going through that process right now but are not “getting done”.
If holidays lasted any longer I would be a blimp in size, unhealthy, and too chocolated out to accomplish anything of worth.

Hi Lynn
don’t be afraid of the wolves, they’re quite sweet, really;)
There is nothing wrong with taking time to do some planning and you shouldn’t jump on the creativity bandwagon if you think it could be counter-productive. Leah had an interesting post a few days back where she talked about the 5% rule.
“When looking to change something she suggests that instead of demanding a 100% turn around we can ask ourselves to make a 5% change. So, for example, if we don’t like that we’re not getting enough exercise in our life, we can look to include 5% more movement in our life. Much more manageable than a complete change, much more doable, and far easier to succeed.”
And Kira also talked about a similar concept called Micro-movements. I guess it’s all about not letting yourself become too overwhelmed by it all.
