Here I go again
The above picture represents a substantial chunk of my life for the next nine months. These are the course materials for my next OU course, U211 Exploring The English Language, which officially starts a week from tomorrow.
According to the course overview…
“U211 is a 60-pont, second level undergraduate course requiring approximately 600 hours of study, as follows:
course-directed study - 440 hours
self-directed study - 120 hours
studentship - 40 hours
Phew! When you see it broken down like that it seems like A LOT!

Comments:
Break it down into weeks and months and it won’t seem as bad.
Way to go!
Enjoy!

Dear Bad Faery, what a challenge! I can understand why you have undertaken such an adventure, it is so great to learn things. More each day. I guess you must have a lot of energy, do this and having a job at the same time! Bon Courage, as they say here.
I like you artwork too, have to catch up with everything,
have a good Sunday

Hi I need some help I will enroll in U211. Before to start I would like some info. If you can send me your experiences in the course and the final exam. and the difficulty with the assigment.
I am not English native and I worry…
I also would like to know if I can get the material of the course in any place second hand.
Thank you,
Marc

Hi Marc
I only started the course in February so I have quite a way to go before I get as far at the exam so I can’t tell you anything about that just yet:)
Course materials: You can buy the four course books on Amazon:
or you could always try Ebay.
This is a level 2 course, i.e. equivalent to year 2 of a degree course though I have spoken to other students who have already done level 3 courses and think that U211 is as hard if not harder due to the sheer volume of material to digest.
Please, please don’t take offense but going by the standard of English in your comment I don’t think that this course would be for you. It’s not an English language learning course and I think you would struggle with the level of analysis that is required since you don’t as yet have a good enough knowledge of English grammar. U211 explores the history and development of English, its role as a world language and the many contexts in which it is used today and as such assumes students will already have a good standard of English.
Non-native English speakers are supposed to contact the University before enrolling so that should be your first port of call.
You should check out this page for continental Europe students:

The contact details for the OU in the North (which is where European students need to contact) can be found here:

Good luck with your future studies!
