More Etsy loveliness
The lovely photo from Madelyn’s Etsy store was not the only purchase I made! This gorgeous art block is by an American illustrator called Cathy Nichols and was delivered this week.
It’s called ‘Aloft’ and is a fine art print applied to a block of wood 7"x7" in size.
It was one of those images that as soon as I saw it I was instantly charmed. It appeals to the little girl in me:)
I was very pleased with it. The colours are very vibrant - now I just need to decide where to hang it. Right now it’s sitting on my fireplace mantle until I decide where its permanent home should be.
You can check out more of Cathy’s colourful work at the following:
Places like fairgrounds and circuses have always felt liminal to me. Perhaps because of their transient nature, they pull up to some empty field or industrial plot, set up home for a day or two, and then no sooner have they arrived than they disappear again, like a faery market. They are one of those places where you can imagine out-of-this-world, magical things happening. Then you grow up and visiting these places as an adult they tend to be mundane affairs which disappoint but every now and again you come across one that is really special…
Like the all equestrian show I saw in Dublin a few years ago which had horses so beautiful and so highly skilled that it left me incredibly moved or the fabulous Circus Ronaldo and their Commedia dell’arte inspired performances or the wonderful chaos of nofitstate, a promenade show where you had to be fast on your feet or end up as part of the show.
The magic is waiting for you, you just need to know where to look:)
Music: ‘99 Red Balloons’, Nina
Comments:
now I’m going to have ‘99 Red Balloons’ stuck in my head for the rest of the day ;)
...99 dreams I have had
In every one a red balloon…
Hope you are feeling better.

still sick, still coughing...trying to study
‘It’s all over and I’m standin’ pretty
In this dust that was a city…

If I could find a souvenier
Just to prove the world was here…

‘And here is a red balloon
I think of you and let it go.’
It’s a deceptive little song. It sounds happy until you actually listen to the lyrics and realise it’s about war.
Now I want to watch ‘War Games’, more 80s nuclear holocaust nostalgia. Ah those were the days:)

Talking of 80s nostalgia, do you remember a kids TV show called Chocky? I think it was on the BBC? Was chatting about it at pub the other night and nobody else could remember it.

Oh my god! I loved Chocky! And Chocky’s Children. Probably as responsible for turning me into a sci-fi fan as much as the famous shows like Trek and V. It was based on a John Wyndham novel. I keep promising myself that I’m going to pick up a copy as I don’t think the TV show is out on DVD.
Talking about TV shows that nobody else seems to remember one of the scariest kids shows that I can remember was called The Witches and the Grinnygog. Scared the bejeezus out of me! It was early 80s as well. They weren’t afraid to make kids tv scary back then.

I don’t remember that show but Chocky =full of awesomeness.
God, we’re being nostalgic for the 80s. That makes us both old and tragic.

This is a charming work of art. I love it. As was the last one you got from Etsy. I have tried to leave comments before but they wont take. I can never get the proper number copied I guess. I try over and over. One of these days it will take...anyway I hope your feeling better. It sucks being sick.

Hi Cris, I’m sorry about the comment thing. It is a pain but if I take the number thing off I end up with annoying spam comments.
Thanks for visiting. Feeling a little better today. I think I may be over the worst of it.
I could very easily get addicted to Etsy;)

I’m so glad that you’re enjoying your new “Aloft” art block & hope that you’ve found the perect ‘home’ for it!
By the way, I’ve just finished the best circus book ever - Water for Elephants. You may like it, too. :)
