My messy studio and some new purchases

My messy desk

I haven’t abandoned my efforts to be an everyday creative, and am managing to get some sort of sketching done most days and even some painting between study sessions. I took this picture about a week ago - my desk has only gotten messier since!

I also treated myself to some new art materials:

Staedtler Pigment Liner Pens
New drawing pens.

Three new sketchbooks

Gorgeous new sketchbooks.

My new sketchbooks are all made by Daler Rowney. The two larger ones are A4 size, one has a lovely brushed metallic silver cover - that one I’m going to keep for my more imaginative flights of fancy illustrations, the other has a purple satin cover and I haven’t quite decided what to do with that one as yet. They both have 150g/m2 acid free cartridge paper. The smaller book is landscape format and is 9 by 6 inches. The paper is a little lighter than in the other books, 110g/m2. I haven’t used a landscape format pad as yet so that’s something new for me. I have been using spiral bound books until recently but none of the local art shops have had any in stock since well before Christmas. The advantage of these bound books is that I can work easily across both pages if I choose.

I’m discovering that I have the compulsion to compartmentalize my sketchbooks hence the new purchases- apparently I don’t like mixing themes. This comes as a surprise to me as I’m not an anal, obsessively organised person. The very opposite as it happens and staying organised is something that I have to work VERY hard at.

I think that my sketchbook compulsion reflects that I’m still trying to find my way on my journey back to art and daily creativity. What sort of art do I want to do, what sort of artist do I want to be? Do I have to choose? Do those questions even matter? Answers on a postcard please…

Well done on the daily creativity, and the super lovely purchas - always a treat to buy new art supplies!!

Good questions but I have no answers, I am asking myself the same questions at the moment… what sort of artist am I? Do I have to choose?  I guessed that if I push enough paint around enough canvas/paper/board, and draw a lot, the answer will emerge on its own eventually....
(Feeling a bit pee-ed off with my art, so sorry I can’t be more help.)

That’s ok, I wasn’t really expecting any answers:)

I always feel pee-ed with all my art. I lack the necessary technical skills to translate the images in my mind’s eye on to paper. It makes for a lot of frustration!

Dear Bad Faery,
It has been a long time but today I’m here to look at your latest posts! I love love love your table and it makes me want to look at everthing closer: your paintings, the paints and the flowers, I love the pigment liners too!
You are very brave, with all your studies going on and still being creative visually…
Have a wonderful day
Andrea

P.S. I forgot to say: I have posted three “giveaway” surprises (Paris Souvenirs) on my blog, please come and participate to win one of them (they are very kitschy but very lovely too:)
Love

So many good poems this Valentine’s Day, yours no exception.

I really enjoyed the poem posted above this as well.  And I find my workspace goes from completely buried under 5 or 6 projects to clean and new in cycles...not unlike the moon.  I’ve learned to love my workspace in whatever cycle it’s in...messy or clean...it’s just part of the process. ;)

So nice to have found your blog! :)

Thank you, Monique! That’s very kind of you. I’m very glad I found your blog too, especially all those lovely snowy photos of Montana.

Your messy table makes me want to create. To me it’s really very inspiring and I want to check over everything like Andrea. I Love it too. I seem to be always going from one subject to another never seeming to light on one subject to paint. So you pose good questions here.
