New OU course in Children’s Literature

The rumoured Open University course on Children’s Literature is no longer a rumour. While not officially announced yet, it has been assigned a course code - U300 - and even a reading list.

The first presentation is scheduled for October 2009.

A couple of things of note. Like my current course U211, it has also been assigned as a ‘universal’ course meaning that it is not tied to any one faculty. I assume that this means that it can be used as a required module across various faculties and subject areas such as Childcare and Youth, Education as well as the more obvious Arts dept.

The course code also indicates that it is a level 3 course so it while the subject area might sound sweet and fluffy it’s not going to be a cake walk of a course.

I’m not sure it this is going to alter my current degree plan. I think a literature degree would be a bit lightweight without the material I’m currently planning to study (19th and 20th Cen Lit) but still, children’s literature is definitely an area I’m interested in.

It’s certainly food for thought! And the thought of getting to study Northern Lights in depth...bliss!
