Reds and gold and ochres…

Let’s hear it loud! Let’s hear it proud! I’m an every day creative and loving it!

While I am choosing not to post every little thing I’ve been doing, I have been doing something creative of some description every day. Mostly sketching, and I’ve come up with a few different ideas for illustrations that I’d like to do.

As you can see I’ve continued on with my art journal pages. I’ve never kept an art journal as such before and wasn’t sure of the actual value of such an endeavour. But I think what I’m learning from doing these pages is that it’s all about the process, not the finished product . I find the process a very right brained activity and that working on these pages help to get me into the right frame of mind for more focused drawing.

I’ve found myself quite taken with the red and gold colour scheme and I’ve set aside a sketchbook to continue on exploring this theme. In fact I’ve found myself compartmentalising most of my sketchbooks. I have my red and gold book, my pencil drawing book, my illustration book, my wolves...This possibly reflects my current some what schizophrenic approach to art. I don’t know what style of art I want to do. And I’m not ready to decide yet. Perhaps all my different styles will coalesce together over time and form some kind of meaningful whole. What I need to keep reminding myself of is that I have had a 12 year break from art and I can hardly expect to have arrived fully formed. I have a lot of exploring to do and as frustrating as it sometimes is, it can be a lot of fun too!

There are all sorts of ways to be an every day creative as you will all be learning if you have been reading Leah’s blog, and this evening I spent a fruitful hour in the kitchen cooking up a delicious roasted vegetable pasta sauce. I’m the first to admit that I’m not a good cook, I tend to make things up as I go along but tonight’s culinary adventure turned out way better than my usual attempts! Tomorrow: carrot and coriander soup!
