The Darkest Midnight
The Office of Public Works have posted a video of this year’s winter solstice at Newgrange. The event itself was broadcast live on the web for the first time this year.
Newgrange is a neolithic passage tomb some 5000 years old. The passage and inner chamber are only illuminated during the winter solstice, for 17 minutes each day, from the 19th to 23rd December. A lottery is held in September to choose the lucky 50 people who are allowed to enter the tomb to witness the phenomenon.
This year marks the 40th Anniversary of the re-discovery of the Winter Solstice Phenomenon at Newgrange by Professor O’Kelly in 1967.

Isn’t the art on the stones wonderful? Love that we are still using these very old symbols today in our current contemporary art works.
Interesting what you are sharing with us here.
